Dave and Angela Hruby thought they had a great a starter home in a desirable east Edina neighborhood; until they tried to sell it. That's when they discovered they had the worst home in Edina. In ten months on the market, with countless walkthroughs, previews and open houses the Hruby family has had a grand total of zero offers for their home. "At first, we had high expectations. Affordable, entry-level home with three bedrooms, great schools, walking distance to two parks, near Southdale and Fiftieth and France, everything you'd want. Or so we thought. We even did things the right way. We hired a realtor, rented a storage locker and staged the home. So as time passed with no offer, we blamed the slow market. The next culprit was price, so we've lowered it three times. Now we have to admit the ugly truth, ours is the worst house in Edina," said Dave Hruby. What's it take to be the worst house in Edina? A lot more than you might expect. "No one would confuse our home for a Country Club property," said Angela Hruby co-owner and Edina school system teacher. "Still, I'm pretty shocked to find out that no one likes it." The modest one-and-a-half story home, priced under $270,000 has been thoroughly updated in the seven years the Hruby's have called it home. The improvements include a new kitchen with appliances, bathroom makeover, new carpeting in the basement and upstairs, new oak hardwood floor in the living room, a second closet in the master bedroom and numerous details through out. "We had pinned our hopes on the spring market, when sales typically pick up. However, it's been the exact opposite for us. Spring has been our slowest time on the market. It's like we're not even listed," said Angela. Dave added, "I'm completely embarrassed. I never realized how undesirable our home is. I apologize to anyone that's visited it. We only wish our friends would have told us just how miserable of a place it really is." When asked about their plans, Dave had mixed emotions, "Part of me wants to pull it off the market and do everyone a favor. Still, we need a larger home. So another part of me wants to keep it listed and raise the price." Raise the price? "Yeah, it's one thing to not sell when you're asking too much. But when you can't give it away, it's rather humiliating."
