Hello: Thanks for your outlandish but brilliant blog idea! My husband and I have been whining only to our closest friends and realtor but this is going to make me feel a whole lot better. We have a 104 yr old fabulous home in Prescott WI that is also a 4 room Bed and Breakfast. Before 9/11, business was brisk - but we knew going in 11 years ago that a hospitality endeavor is cyclical and so many things "out there" can bring our income down (economy, war, lay-offs) - so our bottom line isn't wonderful but we have put everything we have made back into the house. We enjoy living here, greeting guests and creating a place where they can forget their troubles for a night or weekend BUT after 11 years, we want to retire from this business and expand our antique business and spend more time with family. We have been for sale the better part of 3 years. No offers. Hardly any lookers. We have staged, cleared out clutter, had realtor open houses and been critiqued - made chocolate chip cookies for open houses with nobody going thru - we know how you are feeling only we have felt it longer!! We have changed realtors twice - interviewed many more - tried For Sale By Owner - sent out hundreds of emails and flyers. We are on all the paid directories we can afford online, on EBay with a classified ad - even sent out post cards to Spas in 3 states announcing that this would be their NEXT SPA location!! Nothing is working.........our realtor is a nice guy but we don't think he's ruthless enough! We have come up with most of the ideas recently - he thinks that if we pull the old carpet in our living room we will get showings! HELP................. On July 13 - 14, we are having a big open house weekend with cake and coffee to celebrate 11 years in the business. Hopefully when people walk thru our beautiful home then, someone will fall in love with it and have to have it.....................we can only keep praying and hoping. Yours Truly, Marv and Linda K.
